How CMS started

Chism Manufacturing Services (CMS) was started four years ago as a small cable harness subcontracting firm. At that time the business had to share a small leased facility with another company so we could keep leased cost low and its initial equity capital of $7,500 came from a credit card. There were three employees, some part time, some full time and they worked when they had a contract to fulfill. Contracts were difficult to come by for a small startup company in a highly competitive industry requiring high quality products with zero defects. All that during a time of a troubled economy.

David Chism, the owner of CMS has spent much of his 35+ yr. career in the cable harness manufacturing business. His role encompassed everything from sweeping the floor to pulling wire, soldering, testing, and inspecting harness assemblies as well as floor supervision and sales. Dave’s motto is “Treat the customer like family and give them more than they require and certainly more than they expect” 

Where we're going

Early in 2013 CMS’s growth had prompted a move from our small shared facility in Sarasota to a larger facility in the Whitfield Industrial park. In May of 2015 we experienced such growth that it has prompted another move into a 12,000+sqft building in the Whitfield Industrial park. CMS has also expanded its subcontracting services to include several other product lines and we have obtained an AS 9100 quality certification which is key to obtaining a number of other contract opportunities.
